Lake Trasimeno: surroundings and beaches

The location of our Camping Village Cerquestra is excellent for leaving for unique and suggestive places around Lake Trasimeno. It starts from Lake Trasimeno, which is the fourth largest of all Italian lakes and is home to three small islands: Isola Polvese, Isola Maggiore and Isola Minore. Moreover, on the shores of the lake, there are picturesque villages, perched on green and gentle hills.
Castiglione del Lago, Città della Pieve, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Magione, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, Panicale, Paciano... offer unique views and beauties of past ages, such as the medieval one.

Also the beaches of Lake Trasimeno are absolutely to live: beaches of sand or grass will make you enjoy relaxation and peace. Just 100 metres from our campsite there is a public beach, while a few kilometres from our campsite you can easily reach other beaches such as Passignano sul Trasimeno, Tuoro sul Trasimeno and Castiglione del Lago as well as the nearby beach of Isola Polvese

Umbria and Tuscany

From our campsite on Lake Trasimeno you can easily reach all the most beautiful cities of lower Tuscany and Umbria such as Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Siena, Cortona, Gubbio, Montepulciano. Umbria and Tuscany are real pearls among the Italian regions because the beauty of their small villages has no equal.

From our Camping Village Cerquestra it will be easy to reach also some of the most important Italian cities, such as Florence and Rome. Perugia is a real Umbrian pearl: it is located about 30 km from our structure and visiting it gives you real emotions, thanks to the ancient narrow streets of the town and its buildings, all to be discovered.

And what about the legendary chocolate of Perugia? The city is home to the famous Bacio Perugina and here you can appreciate and taste many different and delicious forms of chocolate. Orvieto, which can be easily reached from our campsite, is also a city with an ancient charm that dates back to the ancient Etruscan civilization.

And what about Siena? It is one of the most appreciated and loved Tuscan cities, a destination, every year, for tourists from all over the world. Famous is its Palio and the majestic Piazza del Campo, the symbol of the city. Florence is the city that most represents Tuscany in the world. It is difficult not to be enchanted by it, when you cross its streets and see its monuments, churches and palaces.

Florence is the cradle of the Renaissance and to realize it is enough to visit the Uffizi Gallery. Assisi is only 30 minutes by car from our campsite. A medieval town of great beauty, it rises above Mount Subasio and is the birthplace of St. Francis.

Here you can visit the Basilica of San Francesco, the Basilica of Santa Chiara and the Church of San Pietro. There are many villages and towns between Umbria and Tuscany and those we have listed are just a few. We will be happy to advise you the most beautiful and unmissable places.

Lake Trasimeno Islands and sports activities::

If you love sport, or simply do something different than usual, on Lake Trasimeno you can take advantage of many different activities! One of the most suggestive experience is "Pescatori per un giorno", an excursion organized by the Cooperativa Pescatori di San Feliciano that allows you to live the emotion of the fisherman's life, on board a typical boat. Or you can have fun fishing in one of the many carp fishing camps.

Absolutely do not miss the opportunity to enjoy a simple boat trip, on the waters of the lake, with mini cruises or personal boats. The major islands of Lake Trasimeno can be visited and offer beautiful views and pleasant beaches where you can sunbathe and relax. Characteristic is the Isola Maggiore which is inhabited by 18 people and still maintains the appearance of the ancient fishing island.

On the island there is still the chapel created in memory of St. Francis who went to the island during Lent in 1211. The island Polvese is the largest of the three islands, with its 70 hectares. The island is dotted with century-old olive trees, from which an excellent organic oil is obtained. Moreover, on the island there are still buildings dating back to medieval times, such as the Castle. On the island there are all the useful services for a comfortable excursion, such as beaches, green spaces, restaurants, itineraries and paths.

On Lake Trasimeno it is also possible to have fun with water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing or sailing. There are also numerous paths to be covered on foot or by bike (discover all the routes here).

Another very suggestive activity is birdwatching, that is the observation of migratory birds at the Naturalistic Oasis la Valle, nesting place of thousands of species.

The wine roads and typical gastronomy:

The Trasimeno area is rich in wine trails, all to be tasted and discovered. The Colli del Trasimeno Wine Route is an itinerary created to retrace the history of the territory and the food and wine traditions of the area.
During the route you will encounter white and red wines (Grechetto, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Merlot Riserva, Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva and Gamay Riserva), all of the highest quality, which you can taste and enjoy.

Not only the wine can be appreciated in the Trasimeno area, but also many typical local products, such as the Fagiolina del Trasimeno, a small autochthonous bean in the shape of an eye, the fish of Trasimeno, such as the queen carp, one of the most famous fish of the lake, the extra virgin olive oil, also produced inside our campsite, and the saffron of Città della Pieve, an ingredient obtained from a flower and used to prepare refined dishes in the kitchen.
